Commemorative Specimens from Sri Lanka

Events of national significance have been occasions for the issue of commemorative Notes.

1998 Sri Lanka Independence - 50th Anniversary
Blue 146 x 74 mm Rs 200 note
1998 Polymer Note printed at Note Printing Australia Limited has small SPECIMEN on upper left of middle on both sides and a specimen control number below on front as No. NNN.


2009 The Ushering of Peace and Prosperity in Sri Lanka
Blue 157 x 78.5 mm Rs 1000 note
2009 note printed at DelaRue plant in Biyagama, Sri Lanka has large SPECIMEN diagonally upwards across on both sides. No DeLaRue Logo
A specimen control number is stamped on the front lower left margin as SPECIMEN No. NNN.
Printer is Not identified as DeLaRue by the usual DeLaRue Specimen logo or by name at bottom of the back of note.
As this was a rush order the note probably did not meet the usual DeLaRue Standard of Security.


2013 Commenwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM Sri Lanka)
Purple 143 x 67 mm Rs 500 note
The 2013 note printed at DelaRue, Sri Lanka has small SPECIMEN at bottom left on both sides.
It was a modification of the regular Rs500 issued with date 2010-01-01 and even the serial Numbers were within the same sequence from T/51 to T/55.


2018 Sri Lanka 70th Independence Celebrating Diversity
Blue 148 x 67 mm Rs 1000 note
The 2018 note printed at DelaRue, Sri Lanka has two medium SPECIMEN at diagonally upwards on left and right of center, and small SPECIMEN at bottom left on back.


No hole punched on the note as seen on all Specimens from 1951 to 1992.
Normally a bundle of 100 are printed for distribution to local Banks.
