The Machine Postmarks of Sri Lanka by Harsha F Rupesinghe (2018)
Harsha said in a WhatsApp discussion
There was probably a large quantity of coupons to be stamped with
some government seal and were sent through the continuous slogan machine at the
GPO after removing the town/date die. It is an unusual use of a slogan.
Image of a censored cover cancelled with this slogan on 1941-03-19 is shown on right.
This Advertising slogan is reported to have been used occasionally for
postal cancellation all the way from 1939 May to 1960 May so does not
give any useful constraint on when the overprinting was done on the coupons.
Was it a cancellation or for security purposes.
