Partial Essay Series with date 1st November 1948. Has legality statement with Legal Tender used on Ceylon Banknotes since 1941 September and signatures of Commissioners of Currency. This was probably after independence 1948 February 4th and before deciding on a Reserve or Central Bank of Ceylon to issue notes. The series since 1941 September continued to be issued with dates 1st June 1948 and 1st March 1949

Front Pictorial :  Below center an image of single sail catermaran at sea with two fishermen, with smaller boat without sail and one fishermen behind to left. Coastline in background.
Back Pictorial :  Kandy Perahara, Maligawa Tusker with casket of Tooth Relic and canopy on top between two more smaller decorated elephants, with eight mahoots and others in attendence.

Front Pictorial :  On right a Girl in a flimsy sari with a basket of fruit in hand and on the side and some Jak fruit at her feet and three palms and some ferns in the background.
Back Pictorial :  At bottom center an Anuradhapura like Moonstone with 2 sets of Elephant, Horse, Lion and Bull sequence in one arc and 7 swans in an inner arc.

Front: On top center GOVERNMENT OF CEYLON. On left in Oval portrait of King George VI, to right Pictorial and circular space for watermark. Below center in 2 or 3 lines of small print THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER IN CEYLON FOR THE PAYMENT OF ANY AMOUNT Below centered in middle in large font Value Rupees in a 2 or 3 lines. Below which the Date 1ST NOVEMBER 1948. Space for facsimile signatures, Below on right in small font COMMISSIONERS OF CURRENCY in two lines. On Four corners on the large Numeric Value. On Upper left in Sinhala රුපියල්, VALUE and on lower right, and in Thamil VALUE ரூபாய் Serial Number 000000 with no prefix on upper right and lower left. All within a rectangular decorated border.
Back: On top center GOVERNMENT OF CEYLON. Pictorial and Circular Space for watermark. VALUE RUPEES in one lines center bottom. Numeric Value on Upper left and larger on Right. Value in Sinhala lower left රුපියල්, and value in Thamil lower right ரூபாய் All within a rectangular decorated background design.

The Rs 1000 does not have the date and commisionors of Currency mentioned on it, but is clearly of the same essay series since it has the same legal statement and design features.
The essayer name is not given on essay. No Date scribbled on front of essay card.

The notes at xx dpi is displayed at about 50 dpi if assuming height of 1952 notes of these denominations.
