King George V

Essay of a partial series of notes with King George V with dates 23rd March 1936 and 30th July 1937. With the legality statement Promise to Pay Bearer on Demand the Sum of used on Ceylon Banknotes from 1885 January to 1941 February. These essays were done by Bradbury Wilkinson for the Commissioners of Currency of Ceylon putting a fictitious forward date. King George V died on 1936 January 20th before the date on both these notes.

Although the portrait of George V was not used in any Banknote issued for Ceylon it was used by British Administration for Fiji notes issued with No Date(1934-1935), and for The Strait Settlements notes with dates between 1931 and 1935.

Born on 1865 June 3rd, George V, Prince of Wales, was coronated on 1911 June 22nd, on death of his father King Edward VII on 1910 May 6th.

Colins who have signed some Ceylon currency from 1934 to 1939, and as a pair in the emergency fractional rupee issues of 1942. Numeric Values at all 4 corners. Two Serial Numbers without prefix at lower left and upper right. All within a rectangular decorated border and background. Back: On left Elephant head with pendent trunk. Numeric Value at all 4 corners.

Essayer : Name BRADBURY WILKINSON & CO LD NEW MALDEN. SURREY, ENGLAND centered at bottom margin in small script, in front of Rs 5 and in back of Rs10.

The notes at xx and xx dpi and displayed at about 50 dpi if assuming height of 1941 notes.
