1991 - 2006 : Currency notes
Sri Lanka Heritage
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka
(CBSL) issued for
circulation, Currency Notes in a series that started in 1991 on theme
Sri Lanka Heritage and continued for almost 20 years with small modifications.
- Replaced series of Notes issued from 1987 to 1990.
- The Printer's name was changed to De La Rue with which
Bradbury Wilkinsons had merged.
- Replacement Notes were issued with prefix Z/1, Z/2, Z/3, Z/4, Z/5, Z/6,
for denominations Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 100, Rs 500, Rs 1000 respectively.
Any replacement note date+denominations that the LakdivaCollection
does don't have, or a specimen has not been reported or shown to me
has been put within brackets untill such time as I find a specimen or
one is reported to me as their issue has not been fully confirmed.

- The 1991-01-01 missed a dot in a Thamil letter creating a Rare Variety
with a mintage of under 1 Million notes.
- The Color of Back of Rs100 Notes was changed from Dark Brown to Orange during
issue dated 1992-07-01.
- The Rs 20 dated 1994-08-19 with a mintage of only 6 Million is the most
difficult to find in this series.
- With the 1995-11-15 issue the
UV printing on the notes were enhanced.
Visually the front bottom center design emblem appears blanked.
- With the 2001-12-12 issue the two high denominations Rs500 and
Rs1000 got a wider security strip with a curved line monogram along it.
- Dated 2005-11-02 A new Rs2000 denomination was added but was not
continued in next series.
- With the 2005-11-15 issue the wider security strip on the two high
denominations Rs500 and Rs1000 got Micro Text with CBSL and the
Numeric Denomination like the new Rs2000.
- On the Last fixed date of Series 2006-07-03 the Last Rs10
currency note was issued, replaced with a Coin in 2009.
- The next series of Notes
dated 2010-01-01 were issued only in 2011 February.

The name of Bank Central Bank of Sri Lanka in Front of Note and
CENTRAL BANK OF SRI LANKA on Back. This format was used from 1987 when
the new name was adopted to 2006 and Front reverted to all Capitals in 2010.
The notes scanned at 300 dpi and displayed above at 25 dpi.
In 2025 Lakshan Hirumal designed a nice set of
folders
7 3/4 by 4 3/4 inches (197x120 mm) for this CBSL 10th Series including
all 7 issues of 2006-07-03, which shares the same design features as
the 11th Series issued by CBSL in 2011 for notes dated 2010-01-01.
